Is the VOO program hiring commercial fisherman, first?

June 2, 2010

This story from Bayou, Le Batre, Ala. really started the day off.

“At issue, according to those there, is that recreational boat owners are being hired before those who make their livelihoods solely from fishing local waters.”

URL

Evidently, BP’s VOO program is in question, “We are adjusting the vessels of opportunity program to give priority to commercial vessels and fisherman.”

There’s a post in the Louisiana Sportsman forum stating that boat captains could be paid $35/hr just to drive the boat. I wonder what that’s all about.

What is wrong with using the N word?

February 21, 2008

FEMA moving policy attacked. My head spins around.  My heart races.  My thoughts focus.  A former New Orleans resident used the word just yesterday, according to The Advocate.  “There’s no sense of community. We want to go back to our normal way of living before Katrina.” There is nothing like having normalcy ripped out of your heart, life and mind in a hurricane.  you’ve lost everything else . . .  so what’s left?  Not normal.  Normal exited stage left.

NBC broadcasters produced a story on dirty coffee cups and Shreveport dirty cops, but didn’t really focus on the dirty little secret at Renaissance Village. After two and one half years, nearly exactly to the day, Americans get shuffled into hotel rooms… again.  That’s normal?  Yup.

No one really understands what the N word has become or what the N word really means.  So read it again to get the full feeling for it. An NBC “jackass salute” for posting Shreveport dirty cop video instead of what America doesn’t want to hear more about.

My Post From June 27, 2007 ~

“Normal” is So Yesterday – Finally, recognition of FACTS indicates the rest of America wears those blinders you see on jackass’s.

Normal is not snow.
Normal is not below 80*.
Normal is not rain that sprinkles daily.
Normal is not my pillow.
Normal is not underfoot.
Normal is not my yard.
Normal is not my flower bed.
Normal is not my grocery store.
Normal is not mine anymore.
Kiss my a** normal.
Normal is not the National Guard parked outside.
Normal is not the crime rate.
Normal is not living here.
Normal is not at home.
Normal does not live here.
Normal is not my school.
Normal is not my school board.
Normal is not my new friends.
Normal is not my neighbor.
Kiss my a** normal.
Normal is not the formaldehyde level.
Normal is not my shoes.
Normal is not my furniture.
Normal is not my memory.
Normal is not the trees.
Normal is not the bus.
Normal is not the radio stations.
Normal is not the latitude or longitude or wind speed.
Normal is not Katrina.
Normal is not the Road Home.
Kiss my a** normal.
Normal is not my local Government.
Normal is not my Federal Government.
Normal is not my levee.
Normal is not my canal.
Normal is not my city.
Normal is corrupt.
Normal is self rightious.
Normal is proud.
Normal is a sense of humor.
Normal is not laughing.

What is blight? Don’t you think it’s premature to move forward with demolitions before all the money from the LRA is collected?

January 14, 2008

Well, to you money grubbing, demolition crazy, corporate whores that’d be my house yer talkin ’bout foo. Just cause you have a place to live doesn’t mean everyone does. Check out posts in katrina info on Live Journal from just a few months ago. If you check in with these peeps, its likely not much has changed. I understand that there was a housing problem even PRIOR to Katrina – DUH.

Recent developments and better questions

Who’s side are you on anyway?

December 21, 2007

The housing situation in Louisiana must’ve peaked someone’s interest in the news recently. This is beyond riot time. Two years or less in a FEMA trailer demands attention. Two years plus living away from “home” demands much more media attention. The fact remains that there was a big issue with housing prior to Katrina. So what. No one gave a damn. Now its news because its a “Katrina” story.

The issue that I have with recent events is that as a Katrina Victim I’m still labeled a Katrina Victim. In other words, local school district has put me into a demographic catagory called “Hurricane Katrina”. Yeah, big of them wasn’t it? That’s what I discovered this week. I’m pissed off! Instead of what type of dwelling my children and I live in..apt. house, duplex, etc. I get “Hurricane Katrina”. Yeah! My label under the “type of dwelling catagory” ~ Hurricane Katrina. No kidding folks. Nice of them. Just what exactly do they intend by putting me in this catagory? Are we special?

Really, this is how special we are here. The Urban League sent me a letter last week saying that there was a deadline Nov. I missed. In fact, they addressed me as “Hi, new neighbor”. I’d like to slam the SOB’s upside the head and tell them off! The letter went on to say that there was a deadline ( in three days ) for another program they were offering for Christmas. These a******* first contacted me in March or so of 2007 to let me know they were offering “assistance”. In other words, jump through our hoops so that you can wait further, we can decide whether or not you DESERVE our help and we can keep harassing you in the ure. These people suck! These organizations accepted FEDERAL FUNDING from FEMA and others to assist “Hurrican Katrina VIctims” ~ at their leisure, and at Victims expense. Instead of getting assistance to those who requested it at the time of the crisis, government authorities decided the best way to handle the issue was to outsource to these charitable ( ha ha ha) organizations ( ha ha ha). The Urban Legaue. I have a brand new taste in my mouth for them. PUKE. These big shots are getting a paycheck everytime they send me a letter. I asked them how they received my info back in March and to please remove it. They couldn’t give me a phone number for local people in Louisiana to call to gain assistance, at the time. These agencies rival the other non-profits who don’t really have to give back 100% of their funding. They can pocket all but 3% and say they did their job. Meanwhile, people in New Orleans and elsewhere in Louisiana – are homeless. Meanwhile, I’m still not home.

OH! And another thing. There is supposed to be a Katrina Memorial at Charity Hospital Cemetery for those who perished in the hurricane. The Earth Institute at Columbia University headed by John Mutter, jmutter@ei.columbia.edu – this project has some posts in details that are really disrespectful. “Drowned, duh.” for davis, taylor who was 79 female is way outta line. Columbia needs to address the issue PRONTO.

PS Michelle Malkin is flippin clueless on this issue.  She’s still my favorite, though.

Why do FEMA employees read Louisiana Questions?

November 5, 2007

Periodically, I review my referrals. You’ll never guess who surfed into Louisiana Questions…FEMA. My last post Oct. 26th provoked some comments from a FEMA contracted employee who agreed that people still need help in the aftermath of Katrina, more than two years later. All fake news conferences aside…

What’s FEMA doing surfing my blog?

FEMA surfing my blog?!!

The page FEMA viewed was What’s in da news for da parish in august 2007 when the news reported formaldehyde poisoning from FEMA trailers. Recently, I was informed that some people or organizations are selling FEMA trailers in the Northwest. I believe there was a 1-800 number posted on my website during the formaldehyde hubub so that concerned people could call FEMA with questions about their trailers. Why else would FEMA be surfing my blog? Ideas anyone?

Who is Katrina bashing, California?

October 26, 2007

I should be upset about the recent comparisons of the California, San Diego fires to hurricane Katrina. The media would like to take every opportunity to degrade the state of Louisiana and what happened during Katrina. The fact of the matter IS California is one of the richest states in the Union if NOT THE RICHEST state in the United States. Louisiana is rural. It’s largest city is New Orleans. Comparisons between Louisiana and California should be limited to Hollywood fantasy. . They quite simply cannot be made legitimately. Why the media has chosen to bash Louisiana again for hurricane Katrina, I do not know. These media types have been struggling for news stories, have forged journalistic credentials, and are typically dense and careless with their reporting. Of course California would have better emergency planning than Louisiana. They have more money. Those reporting comparitively should be required to donate their personal time in helping rebuild in Mississippi and Louisiana. As for those families in California who have lost everything – they have my condolences.

This post goes into the Clueless Katrina comments file.

And a new catagory – Katrina bashing.

Update: Oct. 27, 2007 – Here are the links to a few comments from LiveJournal in MSGulf Coast Community and New Orleans Community. And this post from an account by “Feets” Binkowski in California link from jdquintette @ LiveJournal.
